Tomorrow, Sunday August 3rd, is the date for the inaugural Clew Bay Raft Building Championships, which we’re hosting here on Clare Island. If you want an active adventure this weekend, or just to relax and have a laugh watching others work and play, then we can promise you a fun day out.
The podium is all set for the prize-giving, and we’re lucking forward to buckets of craic watching the teams build their rafts under pressure, and then paddling them round the course. We’re wondering if they’ll all make it round without sinking….
Registration is from 10am – 12pm tomorrow, with heats starting at 10am also (for pre-registered teams). The finals will be in the early afternoon, with presentation complete in plenty of time to catch the 4pm Mayo v Cork kick-off.
Prizes as follows:
Winners Perpetual Trophy & 6 x coasteering session with lunch at Sailors Bar
& Restaurant and return ferry
Runners-up 6 x coasteering session with return ferry
3rd Place 6 x snorkel session with return ferry
Fancy Dress 6 x snorkel session
If you’re waiting until tomorrow to make your way over to the island, you need to be on the 11am ferry. But you can pre-register and make your way over this evening too – we have a special package on offer covering two nights B&B in the hostel, return ferry and raft-building entry.
